Saturday, 26th - The Woodman, Halstead
*NEW VENUE ALERT*
Always worrying when it's a new venue, especially one that I'd never really been in before!
You see, I moved to Halstead recently, and fell out of my usual comfort zone. Although I've been knee deep in baby stuff for quite some time, I haven't managed to get out and meet many people, other than our next door neighbours!
It was our neighbours that managed to get us this gig in the Woodman, as one of the local bands had pulled out last minute (what a shame! hehe). So here we are to the rescue....bit scared cause haven't done a gig for a while, but sure I'll manage.....
....that is until I find out that bob can't do the gig. Okay without a bass player. Our good old friend Chris who sometimes play's bass when bob's out wasn't around either....so it left one person to fill the void.......me!
After much practicing and fretting (and only 2 proper band practices I have you know!), we were ready and turned up at the Woodman, bright eyed and bushy tailed (really just looked like rabbits in front of headlights!). Gary and Ian were there before me (I'm 7 doors away!), and roy turned up looking sun burnt and tired from a days fishing!
It didn't take long to set up, which took my mind off the fact that it's a bit scary playing bass and singing, but we plodded on. Then 9pm came...........and the jukebox went off, and silence was presented....
Roy started us off with a nice chill guitar riff, gary and I thudded our instruments at the same time, ian poised waiting for the break......and I started to relay the message of 'working on it'. It didn't take long and then...........we broke into full swing...........'I got eight little fingers' I wailed, as the pace was thick and dirty and progressing upon us all. Hell, we'd found poetic justice in the musical world...
Lead line solo's and impeckable time keeping, we were cooking........and then the end of the song came.....an ubrupt finish, and you could tell we were all chuffed to bits with our efforts. As the last chord rung out, we all looked at eachother in glee and triumphant faces, we'd done our jobs well, a good start.....
As the notes faded to silence....I realized something.....silence...not one bugger clapped! Jeez, how dissapointing....there's us busting our butts, and for what? tumble weed to pass? psh....hehe
I jest really, had a great gig, venue's lovely and the people were all really friendly too which in some ways was a suprise, as we are outsiders and all! hehe
Thanks to the owner for letting us play and thanks to dave for getting us the gig! Hopefully we'll be back there soon!
